about

After Gabriella had an accident in 1995, Bhau Kalchuri wrote her a letter and a correspondence between them developed. Bhau was a close disciple of Meher Baba. She knew him before the accident which left her paralyzed from the waist down, but the relationship really began then.

She'd written music for Bhau's beautiful poems before, but at a certain point a whole project emerged of songs she's put to his "ghazals". Bhau had been trained by Baba in how to write ghazals, a Persian form of poetry depicting the relationship between the lover and the Beloved. Baba placed great importance on Bhau's ghazals in the sixties, asking first thing when Bhau showed up for night duty with him, "Did you write a ghazal?" Bhau describes how beautiful Baba was as he would embody the ghazals Bhau read with a pantomime-dance as her heard them. (Meher Baba kept silence for 45 years.)

Now Bhau has gone to Baba and Gabriella is so grateful for these songs which bring her closer not only to her Beloved, Meher Baba but also to her friend, Bhau Kalchuri
